How We Are Governed

How We Are Governed
Creating charity partnerships in Sierra Leone

Decision-making structure

The Khalisha Hope Charitable Organisation operates under a clear and robust governance framework that ensures transparency, accountability, and effectiveness in decision-making.

The organisation is governed by a Board of Trustees responsible for overseeing strategic direction, compliance, financial stewardship, and safeguarding the charity’s mission and values.

Board Of Trustees
  • The Board is the charity’s primary decision-making body.
  • It’s trustees are Isatu Kamara, Ebrima Touray and Shebora Kamara.
  • It is responsible for:
    • Approving strategic plans and budgets
    • Monitoring performance and compliance
    • Reviewing risk and safeguarding procedures
    • Overseeing organisational policies and procedures
  • Board meetings are held quarterly (every 3 months), with additional emergency or extraordinary meetings convened when necessary.
  • Meetings are in-person, via secure video conferencing, or hybrid formats to ensure accessibility and inclusivity.
  • Minutes are recorded for all meetings and retained securely for audit and reference.
  • All major decisions are made by majority vote at board meetings.
  • Trustees receive agendas and papers in advance to prepare thoroughly and make informed decisions.
  • In urgent situations, decisions can be made by written resolution or through a virtual vote, if it meets quorum and is documented accordingly.
  • Service user feedback and staff insights are often presented to the board to help guide decisions that reflect community needs.

Isatu Kamara

Isatu Kamara is the Founder and Director of the Khalisha Hope Charitable Organisation, a role that embodies her unwavering dedication to empathy, inclusion, and empowerment—principles that not only define her leadership but also shape the mission of her organisation.

Personal and professional development,

Isatu’s educational journey began at the Freetown Secondary School for Girls (FSSG) in Sierra Leone.

After relocating to the United Kingdom, she pursued her passion for personal and professional development, beginning with an Access Course at Reading College. She went on to earn a Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care and a qualification in Childminding, establishing a strong foundation in caregiving and early childhood development.

In 2019, Isatu enrolled at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) in London, where she earned a BSc (Hons) in International Business and Tourism Management in 2022. Her academic excellence was recognised with two Top Achievers Awards:

  • Outstanding Module Performance in Principles and Practices of Marketing (2020/2021)
  • Outstanding Performance in BSc (Hons) International Business and Tourism Management (2021/2022)

Driven by her commitment to lifelong learning, Isatu furthered her qualifications by completing a programme in Teaching and Education at the Global Banking School (GBS) in London from 2022 to 2023.

A strong focus on supporting individuals with special needs

Professionally, Isatu is a registered childminder with Ofsted and currently manages operations at Salma’s Care Services. Her career has been marked by a strong focus on supporting individuals with special needs, particularly through her role as a Specialist Support Worker at Norwood, a leading UK charity that supports people with learning disabilities and autism. Her expertise in autism care and person-centred support has made her a trusted and compassionate figure in the field.

In 2024, Norwood honoured Isatu with a Long Service Award, celebrating her five years of outstanding dedication. The award reflects not only her professionalism and loyalty but also the meaningful and lasting contributions she has made to the lives of those she serves.

Personal Interests:

Outside of her professional and charitable work, Isatu is a woman of deep faith who finds strength in prayer and spiritual reflection. She enjoys travelling, community volunteering, watching films, public speaking, and socialising. She also has a deep passion for fashion, enjoying creative expression through style and design. Her natural ability to connect with others makes her a valued presence in every community she serves.
